I am upset about the Democrats "compromising" on the judicial nomination issue. They should have let Frist and Cheney go with the "nuclear option" (a very stupid, media driven term, but that's another whole rant). If the procedural change passed it could have done as much harm as good for the Republicans in the long run, and who ever heard of a rule that couldn't be undone?

The Republicans don't have enough respect for the separation of legislative and executive powers. This is one of those things that gets translated into a weakness for the Democrats. It's mistakenly criticized as a lack of unity or too much internal dissent. But when you have legislators that are too willing to toe the party line of the chief executive, then democracy breaks down. Remember, the reason we have separate executive and legislative branches (as opposed to a fused parlimentary system like Britain) is because an over-powerful executive is one step short of tyranny, even if he is elected by a (cough, cough) majority of the people.
